Homeowner Checklist Before Your Lift Installer Arrives

Architectural section drawing of a multi-storey building on blueprint paper

The day the installation team arrives should be a happy day, not a day of surprises. Most delays in lift installation in Bangalore come from things the building was not ready for: a shaft that is out of plumb, no power point, no access for materials, or decisions not yet made. Use this checklist to be ready.

Decisions to finalise first

  • Lift type, capacity and number of stops.
  • Cabin finish, door type, colours and lighting.
  • Safety features: door sensors, power-cut rescue, alarm and intercom.
  • Payment stages and handover date, in writing.

The building must be ready

  1. Shaft. Built to the drawing size and checked for plumb. Any correction must be done before installation starts.
  2. Pit. At the correct depth, dry and waterproofed.
  3. Overhead. The height above the top floor as per the drawing.
  4. Landing openings. Door openings cut at each floor to the right size and position.
  5. Machine space. Prepared if the design needs a machine room.
  6. Power. A dedicated, properly earthed supply near the shaft.
  7. Lighting. Temporary lighting in the shaft area during work.

Site access and safety

  • A clear route for materials to reach the shaft.
  • A covered, dry place to store components.
  • Barricades or protection at each landing opening.
  • Keeping children and pets away from the work area.

Paperwork and approvals

Lifts in Karnataka are regulated. Ask your installer what inspection and licensing steps apply and who handles them. Keep drawings, the quotation and approvals in one folder.

On installation day

  1. Introduce a single contact person for the site.
  2. Confirm working hours and access.
  3. Walk through the plan with the installer.
  4. Agree how problems will be reported and resolved.

At handover

  • Test the lift with the installer, including door sensors and alarm.
  • Ask for operating instructions and emergency steps.
  • Collect warranty details and the service contact number.
  • Arrange an AMC from day one. See our lift AMC guide.

Who prepares the shaft for a home lift?

Usually your contractor builds the shaft to the installer's drawing. Confirm responsibilities in writing.

Can installation start if the shaft is not plumb?

No. The shaft should be corrected first, because the guide rails depend on it.

How long does a home lift installation take?

It depends on the lift and the site. Your installer will give a schedule after a site survey.
